COMPTON SCORES FASTEST EVER TRIPLE HUNDRED ====> Day 1, 3 Dec 48 In yet another exhibition of brilliant batsmanship D. Compton flogged the NE Transvaal bowling here today scoring his fourth century in five innings. At the close M.C.C. had scored 232 for 2 in reply to the home team`s 168. Compton reached his 50 in half an hour, and his 100 in 66 minutes. Altogether he has hit 18 4s. The North Eastern Transvaal`s innings was notable for the fine bowling of Gladwin and Jenkins. Gladwin, curiously enough, was more impressive in his first spell, when he failed to take a wicket, than in a later one when he dismissed the last four bats- men with the new ball. Those wickets fell in five balls and gave Gladwin the first hat-trick of his career. ====> Day 2, 4 Dec 48 M.C.C. gained another easy victory here to-day when, after de- claring at their luncheon score of 484 for four wickets to lead on first innings by 316, they dismissed N.E. Transvaal for 113 to win by an innings and 203 runs. It was Jenkins, with another grand bowling display of seven wickets for 55, who rounded off the batsmen`s good work. Comp- ton and R.T.Simpson had continued their overnight stand to put on 399 for the third wicket before Compton was out to a deep field catch. Earlier he had hit all bowlers to every part of the field in a hurricane hitting display which included 42 fours and five sixes.
