Three batsmen scored over 2000 runs this season:  SJ Cook (Somer-
set),    who   had   a  marvellous  season  (2775); Mike  Gatting
(Middlesex), whose batting was the only bright spot in an  other-
wise  miserable  year  for Middlesex (2057); Mohammed Azharuddin,
who was instrumental in lifting Derbyshire to 3rd spot (2016).
