Date-stamped : 08 Sep95 - 14:02 Pakistan Board Patron's XI v Sri Lanka Rawalpindi, 4, 5 September 1995 ====> Day 1, 4 Sep 95 Pakistan Board X1 on top against Sri Lanka - Ranjan Anandappa Pakistan Pakistan Board Patron`s XI took an upper hand on the opening day of their three-day cricket match against the visiting Sri Lanka team at Rawalpindi, Pakistan on Monday. In reply to Sri Lanka`s first innings total of 104 all out, the home team were strongly placed at 179 for one at close. Sri Lankan batsmen flopped and failed to wrest the initiative on a good batting wicket and plunged to 104 all out on the first day in their second three day game against the Board Patron`s XI at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Monday. Openers Hathurusinghe and Samaraweera looking for big scores to stake claims to partner Mahanama in the first test, started the slide when Haturusinghe was out first ball of the day caught in the slips when he played one going away from his body off Athar- u-Rahman. Samaraweera was soon runout going for the second run for a single. But the biggest blow that the Lankans received was when Arjuna Ranatunga playing in his first tour game was bowled first ball off an inside edge which uprooted his off stump. The Patron XI bowlers Rahman, Mohammed Akram and Nadheem Iqbal struck a perfect length and the Lankan batsmen were constantly under pressure. Be- sides Hashan Tillekeratne who was at the crease for 90 minutes for his 15 and Sanath Jayasuriya (22) with four boundaries in 68 minutes and wicket keeper Chamara Dunusinghe (21) the rest just could not play a long innings. Mohammed Akram looked the quick- er of the Board XI`s bowlers but Nadeem Iqbal the other medium pacer impflicted the major damage by getting Jayasuriya and Ranatunga in consecutive deliveries. Source :: The Daily News (http://www.lanka.net:80/lakehouse/) Contributed by The Management (help@cricinfo.com) ====> Day 2, 5 Sep 95 Ata-ur-Rehman and local boy Mohammed Akram bowling at a fiery pace in did the early damage with a well- The Pakistan Board Patron`s xl speedstars Attaur Rahman and Mohammed Iqbal ripped through a fragile Sri controlled line and length to destroy the Sri Lanka batting with an early burst where openers Dulip Samaraweera (0), Hathurusinghe (0) and Sanath Jayasuriya (0) were well comprehensively beaten and bowled. Sri Lanka lost their first two wickets in the first two overs when the openers were sent back and during the latter stages off spinner Suqlain Mushtaq came on to take 4 for 67 off 18 2 overs. With the exception of late resistance by Hashan Tillakaratne (38) who batted courageously despite being hit twice! once on the forearm and the other on chest by Akram batted on for 96 minutes with 5 fours facing 76 deliveries. Chamara Dunusinghe and Kumara Dharmasena added an invaluable 46 runs for the 7th wicket with both batsmen scoring 27. In the morning the Lankans restricted the Board Xl to 280 for 9 declared after being 179 for I overnight . The Lankan bowlers rallied to put the pressure on the Board Xl batsmen. However Saeed Azad who was unbeaten on 71 went on to make 81 be- fore he was caught on the leg side by Dunusinghe off Vaaz. Shoib Mohammed struck 73 when he was Ibw to Pushpakumara. Inzamam Ul Haq trying to race to his 50 before the lunch interval was out for 49 and the rest fell cheaply. Sri Lanka going in for the second time with a defecit of 176 runs crashed to 171 all out with a couple of minutes before the end of the second day. The Pakistan cricket Board announced a 15 member squad for the First Test that begins at Peshawar on September 8. Seven members of the Patron-s Xl have been included in the squad.
