Date-stamped : 19 May95 - 14:28 UNIV: Oxford University v Nottinghamshire, The Parks, 18-20 May 1995 ====> Day 1, 18 May 95 Restriction order of day for Attfield - Ralph Dellor First day of three: Notts 303-6 v Oxford Univ A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE side missing seven regulars through injury struggled to make an impression on a persevering university at- tack. Long spells from the left-arm opening bowler David Mather and the off-spinner Jeremy Attfield, in particular, restricted the county batsmen to under three runs an over for most of the day. The wicket in The Parks has been full of runs in recent matches, but some rain earlier in the week provided just enough movement to keep the bowlers interested and the batsmen wary. In fact, had a catch behind and a stumping opportunity been taken, OxfordUs bowlers could have been celebrating. The highly promising Mathew Dowman lost the chance of a big score when he tried to hit Attfield over the top but instead spooned a catch to the off side. Colin Banton and Jonathan Wileman took the score along at no more than a steady rate, but the loss of three quick wickets hinted that Nottinghamshire were set for a period of rebuilding. Lindsay Walker used his feet against the spinners, but once too often to Justin Ricketts to be stumped by Mike Jarrett. Richard Bates fell to the wicketkeeper as well, but a partnership of 80 by Gregory Mike and James Hindson restored respectability.
