The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on 21 January 1998 the following itinerary for the Australian tour of India in February - April, 1998:

Fri 6 - Tue 10 Mar FIRST TEST Chennai
Fri 13 - Sun 15 Mar India A Jamshedpur
Wed 18 - Sun 22 Mar SECOND TEST Calcutta
Wed 25 - Sun 29 Mar THIRD TEST Bangalore

This tour will then be concluded with a one-day international tri-series involving Australia, India and Zimbabwe to be played between 1 and 14 April.
