Date-stamped : 15 Oct97 - 10:25 Strang posts best bowling figures From Shaun Orange in Nairobi Left-arm medium-paceman Bryan Strang posted the best bowling figures by a Zimbabwean in one-day international cricket when he took six wickets for 20 as his team thumped Bangladesh by 192 runs in the Trust Bank Tri-Nations tournament at the Aga Khan Sports Club here yesterday. Zimbabwe scored 284 before they were dismissed off the last ball of their innings, then continued their dominance as Bangladesh crashed to 92 all out in 35.3 overs. This was largely due to the heroics of Strang who eclipsed the previous best by a Zimbabwean, that of 5-21 by his elder brother Paul, against Kenya at the World Cup last year. The Bangladesh batsmen, of whom none scored more than 18, failed to contain the charge sprearheaded by Bryan Strang, who swung the ball both ways in cloudy conditions, and was particularly severe when swinging the ball into leg stump. Bryan Strang's 10-over spell, which included two maidens, also propelled him to fifth on the all-time list of best bowling performances in one-day cricket and he now joins an elite field of world-class players. The top four are Aacib Javed (Pakistan 7-37), Winston Davies (West Indies 7-51), Anil Kumble (India 6-12) and Imran Khan (Pakistan 6-14). Strang's achievements also won him the Man of the Match award, and swept him past team-mate Andy Flower for the accolade. Flower chalked up his third consecutive half-century of the competition when he made 70 yesterday, to go with the 72 against Kenya and 81 against Bangladesh in their first clash. Guy Whittall, the other batsman in form on the Zimbabwean side, also mustered his third half-century on tour, breezing to 52 and adding to the 83 and 79 in the opening two fixtures. With yesterdau's victory, Zimbabwe have qualified for the best-of-three finals, whose dates have been revised by the Kenya Cricket Association. These will now be played on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (if necessary). Previously they were scheduled for Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. Zimbabwe skipper Alistair Campbell said in a post-match Press conference that they were pleased with their overall performance and looked to carry on right up to the end, and would not let up in the game against Kenya tomorrow. "We batted and bowled well today," said Campbell. "And in particular, Bryan's display was most welcome. The batting continued its rich vein of form and we have no cmplaints."
