Date-stamped : 01 May97 - 06:16 Fleming weighs in to keep Kent on course Kent (211-8) bt Hampshire (207) by two wickets TELLING contributions by Matthew Fleming and Matthew Walker papered over the cracks in a patchy performance by Kent as they beat Hampshire by two wickets at Canterbury. Fleming`s combative medium pace brought him five wickets for the second Benson and Hedges Cup game in three days, as well as another Gold Award, and Walker was the batsman who best came to terms with a pitch of slightly uneven pace and bounce in making 83 off 106 balls. Paul Strang made the winning hit with 26 balls to spare to leave Kent comfortably placed to reach the knockout stages. A run-rate of little more than four an over was never going to be a problem for Kent`s free-scoring stroke-players, but at both 116 for five and 195 for eight they threatened to hand the game to opponents crucially short of reliable bowling support for Simon Renshaw, Shaun Udal and John Stephenson.
