Date-stamped : 25 Jun97 - 06:18 Zuiderent too zealous By Peter Deeley at Worcester Worcestershire (336-6) bt Holland (225) by 111 runs A RECKLESS attempt at a single cost Bas Zuiderent the honour of becoming Holland`s first century-maker in this competition, and with his dismissal went all hope of an upset. Zuiderent had hit two sixes and 10 fours in his 99 when he pushed Phil Newport to midwicket and set off with little hope of beating Reuben Spiring`s underarm throw. He thoroughly deserved his standing ovation however. A year ago Zuiderent, a 20-year-old student, scored a half- century against England in Pakistan in the World Cup. Holland`s problem, as always, was the lack of penetration in their attack. Roland Lefebvre, now living back there, finished with a respectable one for 42, but otherwise their bowling was little more than cannon fodder for the likes of Tom Moody. The Worcestershire captain was suffering from a virus but hit 108 off 145 balls - his first century of the season - and late in the innings Spiring came along with a half-century in as many balls. Both were eventually caught in the deep. Source :: The Electronic Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/) Contributed by The Management (help@cricinfo.com)
