Date-stamped : 28 Apr97 - 06:19 AXA Life League: Walker in Kent stroll By Doug Ibbotson at Canterbury Kent (185-4) bt Derbyshire (184-8) by 6 wkts KENT, scorching off the grid at six runs an over, made short work of Derbyshire`s somewhat slipshod challenge at Canterbury and coasted home by six wickets with 51 balls to spare. The two Matthews, Fleming and Walker, raised a 50 partnership in the ninth over and Derbyshire`s 184 for eight began to look indefensible as Walker then Alan Wells reached half- centuries off 47 and 51 balls respectively. Walker`s Sunday-best 80 came off 74 balls and featured 10 fours. The Derbyshire innings, stricken by four run-outs, owed much to Gul Khan`s maiden half-century in the Sunday League. The former Oxford Blue and Essex batsman compiled a polished and unbeaten 71 from 93 balls, with five fours and a hooked six off Martin McCague. The self-destruct victims virtually lined up but there was nothing sacrificial about the departure of Vince Clarke to a 35- yard sprint and stunning full-length catch by Mark Ealham at long-off.
