Date-stamped : 12 May97 - 06:15 Gloucestershire`s Monte Lynch thrashed Hampshire`s attack for 88 off 51 balls but still could not beat the rain at Bristol. Lynch faced the first ball and the last in what was scheduled to be a 16-overs-per-side match. The former Surrey batsman finished with two sixes and 10 fours and was dropped three times by Hampshire, who will be glad to see the back of him, after he rattled up 87 against them in the Benson and Hedges Cup just 10 days ago. He and Mark Alleyne added 97 in nine overs for the fourth wicket, as Gloucestershire reached 139 for five. But it was all to prove in vain: first a heavy shower cut Hampshire`s target to 95 runs in 10 overs and then the umpires decided the outfield was too wet in any case.
