Date-stamped : 26 May97 - 06:15 Sussex v Kent Sussex (224-6) beat Kent (220) by 4 wickets FUNNY old game, this coloured cricket. Kent, next to top with a perfect record, arrived at Horsham ready to slaughter a rock- bottom Sussex side demoralised by four thumping defeats, writes Richard Bright. So what happened? Sussex sneaked home in a thrilling finish with three balls to spare. Amer Khan and Bill Athey clearly had not read the script. Khan, Ian Salisbury`s replacement, recovered from a career-worst in the field with a career- best five for 40. Spilling Kent openers Trevor Ward and Matthew Walker did not dent the leg-spinner`s confidence. Walker was bowled and Graham Cowdrey stumped before Khan profited from the athleticism of Mark Newell and Rajesh Rao. While others panicked, Athey paced his unbeaten century to perfection. The sun affected one of the 3,000 Horsham patrons more accustomed to having their festival hit by rain, a male streaker rudely interrupting the climax of Kent`s innings. Nigel Llong never recovered from the shock. He was out next ball. Source :: The Electronic Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/) Contributed by The Management (help@cricinfo.com)
