Date-stamped : 09 Jun97 - 06:16 Middlesex v Leicestershire By D J Rutnagur Leics (196-4) bt Middlesex (198-4) by 6wkts A WELL-PACED 79 not out by Neil Johnson and an exhilarating 82 off 64 balls from Darren Maddy enabled Leicestershire to meet their Duckworth/Lewis-set target with 10 balls to spare and beat Middlesex by six wickets. Coming together after Angus Fraser had struck Leicestershire two blows in consecutive overs, removing Vince Wells and James Whitaker, Johnson and Maddy put on 135 in 20 overs. Middlesex were given a sound start of 83 by Paul Weekes and Jacques Kallis, but it was not until David Millns had completed an outstanding spell of bowling that the innings gained signifi- cant momentum. The dismissals of Mike Gatting, lbw sweeping, and Mark Ram- prakash, missing a drive, occured too close together for Mid- dlesex`s comfort, but Jason Pooley and Keith Brown put on 93 without being sepa- rated from the last 11 overs and four balls.
