Date-stamped : 15 Jul97 - 10:22 Adams keeps rhythm going By Neil Hallam at Derby Derbyshire (259-2) beat Yorkshire (145) by 114 runs THERE is nothing, it seems, like a collective grievance and an "us versus them" mentality in the dressing room for creating a bristling sense of purpose on the field. Derbyshire`s players have been pitted against the committee in an acrimonious contest of wills for more than a month since Dean Jones resigned as captain but the comfort with which they out- played Yorkshire for their third victory in a week confirmed that with political solidarity has come a stiffening of team spirit. An emphatic win over the touring Pakistan A team was followed by a comprehensive NatWest Trophy success against Northamptonshire and Derbyshire were the masters with bat and ball in beating York- shire by 114 runs with more than seven overs to spare. A slow pitch and huge outfield begrudged boundaries but Der- byshire`s 259 for two was, by 52 runs, their best against York- shire in this competition, and Chris Adams`s unbeaten century was the coun- ty`s first in the Sunday League against these oppo- nents. Though isolated from the dressing room consensus by his admi- ration for Jones, Adams is in flourishing form, his unbroken stand of 158 in 20 overs with Vince Clarke following one of 183 in 39 overs with Kim Barnett in the victory over Northants. Adrian Rollins miscued to short-midwicket and Gul Khan to short-extra but Adams suffered few alarms, despite being outshone for pow- er by Clarke. While Adams`s 109 contained only four fours, Clarke hit six plus two sixes to carry Derbyshire to a commanding total which looked well beyond Yorkshire once they had slumped to 39 for four. Phillip DeFreitas did the early damage and though Darren Lehmann and Tony McGrath gave the middle- order some substance this re- mained a curiously disengaged performance from a York- shire side with a chance to make up ground on the league leaders. Andrew Harris preyed on the evident resignation of the tail- enders to take four for 22.
