Date-stamped : 04 Aug97 - 14:31 Glamorgan stumble By Edward Bevan at Colwyn Bay Nottinghamshire (228-8) bt Glamorgan (208) by 20 runs GLAMORGAN, without Hugh Morris and their opening bowlers Steve Watkin and Waqar Younis, who were rested before today`s champi- onship game, lost their seventh Sunday league game of the season by the margin of 20 runs against Nottinghamshire. In a meeting of two moderately-placed sides, Notts slipped to 62 for three before a partnership of 129 in 20 overs between New Zealander Nathan Astle (63) and Mathew Dowman (71) provided the backbone to the innings and enabled them to set the Welsh county a target of almost six runs an over on a slow pitch. The visitors enjoyed good fortune when Dowman, after scoring 16, was caught on the midwicket boundary off Robert Croft. But umpire Dickie Bird had called a no-ball after deciding Croft`s full-toss was above waist height. After a steady start the fourth-wicket pair accelerated to- wards the end of the innings as Notts added 107 in the final 10 overs to reach 228 for eight. Glamorgan lost opener Adrian Dale for one with the score at three and thereafter yielded wickets at regular intervals. But with the total on 116 for five, in came Michael Powell, making his Sunday league debut, to give Glamorgan a scent of victory with a rapid innings of 42 from 37 balls. But Andy Oram bowled Powell and then proceded to wipe out the tail in his final two overs.
