Date-stamped : 12 Aug97 - 10:30 Middx v Hampshire By D J Rutnagur Hampshire (216) bt Middlesex (200) by 16 runs JASON Pooley made a brave and audacious 94 not out against Hampshire at Lord`s before running out of partners 17 short of Middle- sex`s target of 217 for victory. Hampshire owed their win to a dashing 89 by Matthew Hayden, their Australian import, for after his dismissal, still with seven wickets standing, they added only 49 from nine overs. Their 216 was not a large total, but Middlesex have not reached 200 in a Sunday League match this season. At 106, with only Pooley of their main batsmen remaining, Mid- dlesex, who have not won a Sunday league game since May, looked doomed to a heavy defeat. But the left-hander kept them in con- tention un- til only two overs remained. Source :: The Electronic Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/) Contributed by The Management (help@cricinfo.com)
