Day 1 Report
ROHTAK - Haryana was in a commanding position against Jammu & Kashmir
on the opening day of their Vijay Merchant Trophy match which began at
Vishwa Karma stadium. At draw of stumps Haryana raised its total to
297 for 6. Earlier Haryana won the toss and elected to bat
first. Having lost opener Gaurav Bhardwaj for just 4, Haryana lost its
second wicket quickly in the form of Vikas Sharma (10) when the score
board read only 29. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, at
one end, with the other kept intact by opener Nishant Goyal who
completed his hundred in 288 minutes after facing 215 balls with help
(11x4, 1x6). At stumps today, he was unbeaten on 132. Along with him
was debutant Joginder Sharma unbeaten on 59. Pranab took four wickets
for Jammu and Kashmir.
Day 2 Report
Haryana's seventh wicket partnership of 193 between Joginder Sharma
and Nishant Goyal, and a sound effort by their bowlers, put Haryana in
a commanding position at the close of the second day's play. Nishant
Goyal (162) and Joginder Sharma (132), enabled their side to pile up a
massive total of 404 for 8 (declared).
In reply Jammu and Kashmir surrendered meekly. Their wickets continued
to fall at regular intervals, and their innings finally folded at
141. Haryana bowler Joginder Sharma, who had earlier impressed with
the bat, took three wickets. For the visitors only Inderjeet showed
some resistance scoring 73. At close today Jammu and Kashmir were at
35 for 2 following on, and struggling to avoid an innings defeat.
Day 3 Report
Haryana registered an outright victory over Jammu and Kashmir with a
convincing margin of an innings and 176 runs. Resuming their innings
at the overnight score of 35 for 2, Jammu and Kashmir's remaining
eight wickets fell with the total at 87. Only Vimarsh (17) and
Inderjeet Singh (30) could reach the double figures. For Haryana,
leg-spinner Ashwani turned out to be the wrecker-in-chief, claiming
six wickets for 30 runs. Haryana get 8 points from this match and
Jammu and Kashmir get none.
