Kent and Essex both had 5 away wins (Leicestershire, Somerset and Sussex had 4 each), Kent won the League by virtue of their higher run-rate - 4.98 to Essex's 4.56.

Each team to receive a maximum of 40 overs, with each bowler restricted to 8 overs and the bowler's run-up restricted to 15 yards.
If two or more teams finish in first position on the same number of points, the winner will be decided on the most wins, or if still equal, the most away wins, or if still equal the highest average run-rate per over throughout the season. Counties with the same number of points in other than first place share the position.

Points system:
Win: 4 points
Tie: 2 points
No result: 2 points


The competition was sponsored by John Player

Prize Money
1st: 2500 pounds
2nd: 1250 pounds
3rd: 600 pounds
It was announced at the presentation dinner that the Sponsors had agreed to raise the total prize money for second and third for this year to 3000 pounds so that each of the runners up received 750 pounds.

Winer of each match: 75 pounds (shared in the event of a 'no result')

Sixes award: 1000 pounds to be shared equally by each six hit - there were 414 in all. 150 pounds was awarded to the batsman hitting the most sixes - R.D.V.Knight of Surrey and J.N.Shepherd of Kent each with 13 shared the prize.

Bowling award: 1000 pounds to be shared equally by each four wickets in an innings performance - there were 58 in all. 150 pounds was awarded to the bowler with most such feats - T.J.Mottram of Hampshire and P.E.Russell of Derbyshire achieved the feat on 3 occasions and shared the award.
