Australia won by 2 runs (D/L Method)
Australia, then, barely keep their nerve, courtesy some tight
bowling from Harvey and Symonds, to see their way to a two-run win
in the first of seven ODIs in this series.
The rain interruption set the West Indies a target of 208 in 37
overs, after the Australians had racked up 270 in their allotted
50 overs.
After a rollicking start from Powell and Gayle, things went awry,
and the pressure of the mounting run-rate proved too much for the
West Indians.
Australia's bowlers proved miserly and difficult to get away,
especially after the rain interruption, and when Brian Lara got
himself out, the major challenge was removed. Sarwan posed some
resistance, but he could not see his side through to a win.
So Australia take a 1-0 lead in this series. Join Wisden CricInfo
again tomorrow for live coverage of the second ODI, also at Sabina
Park, Kingston, Jamaica. That ODI starts at 14:25 GMT, so until
then, goodbye.

but that is not enough for the West Indies to win this match
36.5 Lee to Dillon, two runs, Dillon flicks this high and far, the ball
spirals in the air and drops towards Hogg at square leg - who
drops it!
36.4 Lee to Sarwan, one run, Sarwan shuffles to off and tries a cheeky
paddle to fine leg, gets a leading edge that dribbles to mid off
for a single
